Is your workplace looking to start or enhance its diversity, equity and inclusion journey? This introductory session will provide leaders and professionals with strategies to foster inclusive cultures in workplaces.

This webinar provides essential guidance and encouragement for those starting on their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) journey, as well as a valuable refresher for those seeking to deepen their understanding of these critical concepts within the workplace context.

This webinar is designed to equip leaders with the tools and insights necessary to develop self-awareness, understand their old and new social positionalities, and foster an inclusive work environment.

Addressing the evolving complexities of the workplace, it underscores the importance of leadership that embraces diversity, promotes equity, and actively works against exclusion.

Key concepts

  • Diversity, equity and inclusion: Learning about language, business case, challenges and strategic approaches.
  • Leadership in context: Understanding team members’ diverse backgrounds and the importance of creating an inclusive environment for all.
  • New paradigms: Moving beyond traditional leadership models to embrace inclusivity, diversity, and equity.
  • Decision-making in a new world: Using positionality to understand new contexts and challenges.
  • Inclusive leadership traits: Developing traits of active allyship, cultural competence, self-awareness, courage, and commitment to lead with inclusivity.
  • Theory and action: Bridging the gap between understanding inclusive leadership and applying it through actionable strategies.

Webinar takeaways:

  • Active allyship: Shifting from passive inclusion to actively fighting exclusion, acknowledging socio-historical legacies, and becoming a bridge builder.
  • Self-awareness, cultural competence and positionality: Recognising biases and the importance of their rationalisation to effectively lead others.
  • Courage and commitment: Encouraging uncomfortable conversations and creating safe spaces for dialogue and growth.
  • Practical strategies: Emphasise kindness, differentiate equity from equality, rethink user experience (UX), employee experience (EX), and customer experience (CX), model desirable behaviours, and leverage data for decision-making.
