Did you know that research has found that the most common length of psychotherapy in Australia is a single session? Single Session Thinking (SST) is a therapeutic approach which has evolved on the premise that the first  psychotherapy session is potentially the most therapeutic and has the greatest influence on outcomes. It also operates on the assumption that the first session may be the only session that the client attends.

In this workshop, you will gain an overview of effective strategies that you can utilise when supporting clients in brief therapy.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this workshop, you'll be able to:

  • demonstrate foundational knowledge of the key features of Single Session Thinking
  • articulate the strengths and difficulties of utilising Single Session Thinking in clinical practice
  • understand the basic skills required to translate knowledge of Single Session Thinking into practice.
  • implement strategies to maximize therapeutic impact within a single session by focusing on client priorities and immediate needs.
  • assess client progress and outcomes effectively in brief therapy settings, ensuring that clients leave with actionable insights or solutions.
